Video Post: The Myth of Willpower

Posted by on Dec 15, 2013

A lot of people believe in –  and rely on – willpower as a technique to make change.

The problem is that willpower is a lot like dieting.

It just doesn’t work.

Repeatedly doing the same thing and expecting different results is one definition of insanity.

I also call it a recipe for self-sabotage.

When willpower doesn’t work we blame ourself.

And yet the truth is willpower has failed us.

Besides being ineffective, relying on willpower is usually stressful and never fun. (And fun on the other hand, is a great motivator for change!)

Check out this 60-second video about what is usually happening when someone thinks they have a “lack of willpower” when it comes to food and eating.
